Why Nurses Are Powerful

Nurses are on the front lines of administering and evaluating a patients treatment. If you’re a patient, nurses are your greatest advocate. Because they spend more time with you, nurses can comprehensively moderate your progress. They know what symptoms might be a red flag and can assess the effectiveness of treatment. Then they communicate all of this to your doctor. Nurses also provide invaluable emotional support. They understand the complexities and implications of an illness. They can counsel you and your family through everything from understanding a chronic condition to coping with death and dying. Nursing is a true calling and I believe it is calling on me.

Why I want to become a nurse

I believe that it takes a special kind of person to be a nurse — someone who strives to be part of the healing process and is passionate about his or her job. Someone who pays attention to detail is very flexible and ready to give their all. Nurses do so much more than giving medicine and treating wounds; they care about the patients they attend for, by helping them improve, better, and strengthen their lives and disease outcomes. Not only do I fit all of those qualities, but I believe that I have even more to offer. I want to become a nurse because I crave to make a difference in the world and want to change and touch lives. Modern medicine and its advancements strongly influence and continuously amaze me. I want to become a nurse and help people because excellent nursing care and modern medicine helped my grandfather live another twenty-five years. At the age of fifty-four, he had suffered a major heart attack and then had to have five bypasses. In those twenty-five years, he continued to have heart disease, but with the proper medical care, he continued to live. He got to see all three of his daughters marry, his son start his own business, and meet all six of his grandchildren. He recently passed this Christmas of 2018 at the age of seventy-nine because of a heart attack. After witnessing my grandfather go through these hard times, and seeing how much patience and support his medical team had given him truly inspires me to become a kindhearted and caring person like them. As a nurse, I believe I will have the chance to leave a positive mark on someone’s life almost daily. Choosing to go into nursing as my future profession can offer myself a meaningful career, filled with many opportunities, challenges, and tons of rewards. To me, becoming a nurse means becoming a caregiver, and as a caregiver, I can provide hands-on care to my patients in a variety of different settings. As a nurse, my job will be to maintain a patient’s dignity while providing knowledgeable and skilled care.
