For my career research, I chose a Nurse Practitioner. During my junior year of high school I came to the decision that I wanted to be a nurse. I believe that it takes a special kind of person to be a nurse — someone who strives to be part of the healing process and is passionate about his or her job. Nurses do so much more than giving medicine and treating wounds; they care about the patients they attend for, by helping them improve, better, and strengthen their lives and disease outcomes. Looking at information provided from mynextmove.org made me believe even more that nursing is a perfect fit for me!
Pros and Cons of being a Nurse Practitioner
Pros
- I’ll be doing what I love
- I’ll be benefiting my country’s future by helping aid the sick/wounded
- I will have flexible hours and shifts
- Nurses are always in high demand, so I’m certain I’ll be offered a job
Cons
- I will have high physical demands from being on my feet all day
- I will have to work many long hours and some night shifts
- Nurses witness all types of human suffering so I may experience emotional burnout
- There’s a lot of stress and pressure that comes with being a nurse

What I found out that was interesting is that the one state I am living does not have a high demand for nurses but neighboring states do.
